MeisTravis
Hey all! I have some peace river mammal teeth I’m looking for help with. I’m hoping someone more knowledgeable than myself can find something with these teeth. I know a couple aren’t great but hoping for the best! Thanks all! 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) The root on this one is super cool, seems like a wide root!
minnbuckeye
@Shellseeker, here is another request for IDs that seem to be up your alley. An old post, but deserving of some help.
PaleoNoel
3 & 4 appear to be incisors. I'm relatively confident that 4 is deer, while I think 3 is either deer or camelid. I believe 2 is a camelid canine. 1 & 5 may be too fragmentary to tell, but could be carnivoran. Let's see what more experienced Pleistocene collectors have to say and I'll defer to their opinion. @Harry Pristis @PrehistoricFlorida
Harry Pristis
I suspect there were no initial responses to this post because: * The images are inadequate -- not bright enough. * The plethora of images are not numbered or otherwise distinguished from one-another. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

I hunt the Peace River all the time. 4 months is a long time to get no answer at all to a request for help, but sometimes things fall thru the cracks. That is why we are thankful for TFF members like @minnbuckeye. I will try to give you my best guess on each of the 5, with some pointer that might help you get certainty. I am a little busy. My granddaughter celebrated her 1st birthday at my home today. #2 is a camel/llama incisor. It is either from Palaeolama mirifica or Hemiauchenia . macrocephala and I am thinking Palaeolama. Lower incisors are numbered 1,2,3 from center to left and 1,2,3 from center to right. I think you have right side i2, with a broken root. #4 is also an incisor. I have found a few similar to this. I believe that they are Sus Scrofa.... modern pig. But it is curious , don't you think that one of the Tapir incisor in the research paper just below has some similarities.. Here is a research paper by Richard Hulbert Tapirus webbi . It has some great photos of Tapir Incisors and teeth. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Incisors-and-canines-of-Tapirus-webbi-n-sp-from-the-late-Miocene-of-Florida-A_fig5_235789831 Here is a tapir canine on Worthpoint for Tapirus Veroensis. It is a Pleistocene version and this a lot more common than Tapirus webbi https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/santa-fe-river-florida-fossil-tapirus-413949118 So, my belief for #1, #2, and #5 are Tapir canines, most likely T. veroensis Maybe you have been digging in a Tapir graveyard.. That is about as far as I can take you. Suggest you have enough pointers to make guesses as good as mine. 2 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
