The not knowing is killing me!

Hi everyone, I’ve posted here before and have been absolutely amazed at everyone’s collective knowledge and help.

So I got a friend into fossil hunting and she recently went to South Carolina hunting creek beds.  I like to help her with identifying her finds but this one has me stumped.

I told her to post here but she hasn’t and said I could do it for her so here ya go……..really curious what people think.

Thanks so much for any help.

Thanks, I agree with tooth plate would it be like a drum fish?  Looks like crushing/grinding teeth.  I bet it did stick out like a sore thumb!  ;)

Look more like iron concretion to me. Couldn't see any tooth roots.

Agreed......just looks flat on the top of the concretions representing the grinding surface.  I think they r right and the more I look up concretions and clam holes I think that is what it may be.  Am I correct in assuming that phosphatic concretions form in the presence of bone or am I way off.  The holes certainly look like clam holes.  I was really hoping it was gonna be some type of teeth.  If you’ve ever seen xrays of human teeth the wisdom teeth that have yet to erupt sit lower and back to the molars.  Man that is what I was seeing in some of those pics.  :).  The mind can really make you see what it wants you to see.  I do appreciate everyone’s input.  You guys always rock!  No pun intended.  ;).

One could contemplate stretching the definition of phosphatic concretion to include bone  ?

Not really.

Some phosphatic concretions form around bone fragments.
