Geogrl13!
Good evening, I recently went fossil hunting in Dawson county MT in the Hell Creek formation. I believe that the fossil I collected is a possible dinosaur vertebra. Is there any way to determine what dinosaur this maybe and if it is a vertebra? The measurement is 7 inches long and 4 inches wide. Thank you, geogrl Edited September 14, 2021 by Geogrl13!
hadrosauridae
first, showing the broken side doesnt help much. From one of the pics, it looks like it might be a the remains of a vert. Please show the intact side. "There is no shortage of fossils. There is only a shortage of paleontologists to study them." - Larry Martin
jpc
PS... there is no s in Hell Creek. As hadrosauridae said, we need to see the other side. The broken/worn texture says this is dinosaur but tough to tell beyond that
Geogrl13!
Thank you, I have been prepping this fossil however the back side is so fragile that I did not even notice that I was chipping straight through the bone. I have been reading up on the forum and getting ideas on how to better prep and preserve the bone. I have never prepped a dinosaur bone so this is all new to me, once I clean up the matrix I’ll repost with better pictures.
