Jbenton
Hi I don’t believe this is yet fossilized, but need your help on an ID. From far northeast Illinois. Any idea?
Tidgy's Dad
It looks like horse to me, but seems pretty small. How big is your coin? Most of the world won't know this! 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

Harry Pristis
It's an equus horse upper cheek tooth, probably an M3 based on the curvature of the tooth. 3 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Jbenton
Harry Thank you. This was found on a farm that was once an Indian campsite, about 600 years ago or so. Based on the look, I assume this tooth was not lost recently? Much of the enamel is gone. Thoughts?
Harry Pristis
At 600 years BP, Equus horses had long been extinct in North America and had yet to be re-introduced from Europe. This is likely to be a tooth from a farm or from the Mormon exodus across Illinois. We'll never know. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
