Two new spinosaurids described from the IoW

Interesting and implications to other faunas.

 

Looks like most collectors will need to change the ID of their Baryonyx teeth to Baryonychinae.  Will put a lot of importance to what formation these teeth are from in the Wealden Group to call it definitely Baryonyx.  Must be from the older IOW deposits if its possible to identify.

@Troodon has been quite an eventful month for dino discoveries hasn’t it? :BigSmile:

 

Seems to be a reoccurring theme that when spinosaurids are present, multiple genera make up the assemblage.

Great finds and a great paper.

 

An excellent example of amateurs and professionals working together. And a big shout out to Nature for making the paper open access.
