Calli99
Hello, I picked this pebble up from the beach at Compton Bay on the Isle of Wight, this area is Lower Cretaceous. The pebble looks like it’s full of bony bits, but I have no idea what they might be from and it might prove too difficult to tell. If anyone has some insight I’d be delighted to hear it. Scale accidentally in inches rather than cm in this photo Close up photos taken with microscope attachment to my phone. Carl
I think you have a fish there. Those vertebrae are very typical for fish. Nice score! 1
Manticocerasman
it looks like fish remains, but possibly some other bones also. we found some simmilar stuf in the past on IOW, bits that we could identify were mostly fish bones, Hybodont spines and teeth and even pterosaur teeth. 2 1 growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional. I think so, too.
Calli99
Thanks everyone, I thought fish would be most likely but wasn’t too sure. Really pleased with this cool little pebble!
