bockryan
Took the relatively short trip down to Purse State Park last weekend and had quite a bit of success! Best find was certainly a fairly large chuck of what I think is turtle shell, along with a very much alive turtle that rested with us for our lunch before returning to the water. The dream of finding anything marine mammal or a somewhat complete ray plate remains for next time!
bthemoose
Looks like a successful trip! You can find ray plates but not marine mammal fossils at Purse—the age of the deposits there is too old (Paleocene) for the latter.
Coco
In addition to the origin and age of the terrain in which the fossils are found, size is also important for proper identification. I invite you to read my last link in my signature. If you don’t have a rule, print the document I made available and put your fossils on it before making your photos, making sure to leave a box with the apparent size (pedagogical message) Coco ---------------------- OUTIL POUR MESURER VOS FOSSILES : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 1 (Poissons et sélaciens récents & fossiles) : ici Ma bibliothèque PDF 2 (Animaux vivants - sans poissons ni sélaciens) : ici Mâchoires sélaciennes récentes : ici Hétérodontiques et sélaciens : ici Oeufs sélaciens récents : ici Otolithes de poissons récents ! ici Un Greg... I'm always confusing it with Calvert, where I've also gone a few times (with much less success)! I should likely focus on that spot more, as much as I like the absolute certainty that I will find *something* at Purse

It really was a great companion for a while, and then we got to witness the classic nature documentary scene of it scrambling over the rocks and sand and pushing out into the water.
