Need Some advice on prepping this sauropod tooth

Hi Guys !

I have this Titanosaur indet. tooth (Sauropod tooth) from Kem Kem basin for quite sometime now.

As you can clearly see this tooth is composited with glue and sand in the lower part but have a nice tooth crown with feeding wear at the tip.

I want to try to remove the composited part because that irritate me every time i look at it ! So i need some advice on prepping this tooth... what is the step i should do or the best way to prep this tooth. I only have a simple tools like surgical blade and dental pick .  tbh with Y'all i am completely new to prep work !   ... arr...Newbie question : Should I put the composited part in water to make it soft ?

Thanks in advance !

With moroccan items I would first try to dampen the area with water and see if disolves the glue, not soak.  Some matrix falls apart in water so see where that takes you..

If nothing happens some of the glues they use are impervious to acetone but thats another option.

Nice crown, keep us posted.

Not sure What to do with this area? ... Is it also a matrix dirt ?

That section is probably all matrix filled in with glue. If you want to remove the composited section and have only the crown remain, hit it with some acetone. It will dissolve the glue. You can try brushing it on to remove the filler by hand. I wouldn't soak this in acetone as the couple of cracks in the crown might be held together with glue as well. A soak would allow these to come apart.

Good start, looks much better.  I would gingerly try to scrape off the matrix on the crown and around the root.  The material in the orange area will be a problem, its probably a non water soluble glued matrix .  They may have used it around the tooth where the crown meets the root .  I've had lots of issues with that type of glue.  You can try acetone and see if that softens it.  You can see if it chips off mechanically.

However that hard matrix is probably what is holding the crown to the root and filling a big void in your orange highlighted area.

Try cleaning it up mechanically first and see where that goes.

@Troodon @Ptychodus04 Thank you so much for the advice !

@Ptychodus04  I will get acetone tmr . tbh i have never use acetone before .. Am i have to mix it with some water before using it or i can just use it straight away ? ( Sorry for the newbie question )

@Troodon  the matrix around tooth crown and root are quite hard to remove and my dental pick went missing as well ! my surgical blade is not good enough for this important area . I will get new dental pick tmr as well as acetone solution.

@Ptychodus04 @Troodon  Hello ! Here is a update on my titanosaur indet. tooth prep work

after using acetone to remove majority of composite part out of the way...I think that orange area was not a tooth crown covered with matrix and hard glue but was another composite part filled in area that tooth crown were missing so i left it there for stability propose .

Pls let me know what you guys think .   this was my first prep I actually did some small damage spot to the tooth crown LoL:DOH:  look like curved dental pick is not my way , Xacto knife in the other hand work perfectly .
