Permineralization or just bad to the bone rock?

Hello!

Please let me know if there was anything biological in this rock's history, and if so, what?

The material takes a good polish and shows nice wavy features, maybe petal patterns - and a pervasive porosity.

I don't see anything to indicate this is a fossil in any way.

It is easy for me to imagine small fish, oriented with the current, swimming over a stream bottom with this appearance. I'm afraid it's the best I can offer though.

 Provenance?

Inconspicuous.

I picked up the stone from dirt at an irrigation water pumping station south of Braila city in Romania (where I did some electrical work).

It may have been excavated from the canal. Or not.

Metamorphic rock.

Metamorphic rock.

No contest, this answer is what I expected.

The reason I went ahead with posting is I can't wrap my head around the porosity issue.

Just an example. In the photo bellow, the 4 mm whitish grain shows what looks like inclusions, black "dashes".

In fact those are fissures and look what lays behind them (movies):

Maybe this rock is metamorphic; the material was hard pressed and melted; then it came at the surface and water made the porosity as can be seen.

Since no semblance of permineralization can be found, it doesn't matter.

No reply needed.

Thanks to all!

It looks like an augen gneiss, a metamorphic rock.

Yes it does!

But this kind of brush painting seems incompatible with Die Deutsche Ordnung of a gneiss:

And to add insult to injury I see features reminiscent of the ALH 84001 kerfuffle, "chain structures resembling living organisms":

This rock is not Rhynie Chert, I know.

It is a metamorphic rock. Sorry.

Heat and pressure cause these flowing structures, not microorganisms like purportedly created similar structures in the ALH84001 meteorite.

You should post pictures of it on Mindat; they have many great mineralogists.
