CornelDumitru
Hello! Please let me know if there was anything biological in this rock's history, and if so, what? The material takes a good polish and shows nice wavy features, maybe petal patterns - and a pervasive porosity. Thank you!
Fossildude19
I don't see anything to indicate this is a fossil in any way. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Brandy Cole
Looks like a rock to me with very pretty texture.
val horn
I am thinking wood of some kind. Where did you find it, and what did it look like before you polished it.

It is easy for me to imagine small fish, oriented with the current, swimming over a stream bottom with this appearance. I'm afraid it's the best I can offer though.
Ludwigia
Looks like some kind of metamorphic rock to me. Provenance? Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

I picked up the stone from dirt at an irrigation water pumping station south of Braila city in Romania (where I did some electrical work). It may have been excavated from the canal. Or not. Ludwigia
Probably from an alluvial deposit then. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/

Rockwood
If you can access a geologic survey web site they usually have surface material maps available.

The reason I went ahead with posting is I can't wrap my head around the porosity issue. Just an example. In the photo bellow, the 4 mm whitish grain shows what looks like inclusions, black "dashes". In fact those are fissures and look what lays behind them (movies): (please mute the sound) https://photos.app.goo.gl/SsjS7yKNDKV68NtE8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/Pri27eE5Nnhjmo2b8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/RWBEoU97SkNJhoYaA https://photos.app.goo.gl/ukkBPN7ZnekgU92u6 Maybe this rock is metamorphic; the material was hard pressed and melted; then it came at the surface and water made the porosity as can be seen. Since no semblance of permineralization can be found, it doesn't matter. No reply needed. Thanks to all!
DPS Ammonite
It looks like an augen gneiss, a metamorphic rock. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augen My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. But this kind of brush painting seems incompatible with Die Deutsche Ordnung of a gneiss: And to add insult to injury I see features reminiscent of the ALH 84001 kerfuffle, "chain structures resembling living organisms": This rock is not Rhynie Chert, I know. It is a metamorphic rock. Sorry.

You should post pictures of it on Mindat; they have many great mineralogists. 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.
