Pterosaur
Hey there! I was visiting the Peace River this year for my bday with my husband, and we came across some awesome fossil hunters. We’d never hunted the Peace, and were totally unprepared. Fortunately, the group we stumbled upon were super nice. They had sifters to spare and beers to share. They not only made my birthday, but also gave me this tooth. I can tell it’s a canine, but not sure what it’s from. Any thoughts? Tooth is just shy of 3/4”. Thanks very much!! Al Dente
It is a Hemipristis lower tooth. It’s from a shark, not a mammal. 3
Shellseeker
One of my favorite teeth. It was the the first really nice fossil I found back in 2008 hunting just south of the Rt 70 bridge over the Peace River in Arcadia. 1 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

It looks like the shark dropped it out just so you could find it about an hour beforehand. I had no Kayak, little knowledge of anything fossil related, I made a sieve, took a shovel, walked in and started digging. I remember that I tossed away the 1st few Armadillo osteoderms because I thought they were parts of asphalt streets. I had a full time job in 2008 and could only get out on the weekends. It was my 2nd or 3rd time out that this tooth fell into my sieve. At the time, I thought how great it was to find such treasures and expected many more. It is still my best Hemi... 3 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

In many cases, yes, sharks teeth are flattened. But not all of them. In this case this tooth is from the very back of the sharks jaw (or a worn lower as Jack mentioned). Check out a site like Elasmo.com to see what a complete dentition looks like with variable teeth. Edited November 5, 2021 by ClearLake

Al Dente
Here are some images of modern teeth from the lower jaw of Hemipristis, from this website-https://shark-references.com/post/521 Your tooth has a lot of wear on the tip and roots.
