Found this fossil on the bank of the Bow River just below the Bassano Dam in Alberta while I was fishing. Pretty sure is is a fossil but not sure what from. Let me know of any more info is needed.

Section of a straight shelled, heteromorph ammonite, with some of the shell material preserved, I believe.

Thank you for the info! 

I was wondering as well if the color was from the animal when it was alive or of it is apart of the fossilization process. 

 

I do plan to go back in the spring and see if I can find more in the same area.
