Troodon

Recommended Posts

A good number of Dinosaur collectors, on this Forum, have Acrocanthosaurus on their wish list and its one of the holy grail of teeth to acquire.   I saw this post by Jim Kirkland and thought I would increase the drool factor.  He does not state what formation it came from but have to believe its the Cedar Mountain Formation..  Enjoy

His comment

"Acrocanthosaurus serrations are so fine you can barely see them"

His fingers have been measured, published and considered a standard in the field?

I don't think the intent was to show detailed measurements.  Just how small the serrations were by placing next to the fingerprint lines as thats recurring in each picture.

Considering the many comments on this forum that hands are not appropriate to show the size of thing. My comment was a joke. I probably should have added /s or something. Realise that I usually don’t take things to serious including myself and the posts I make.

On another note and while we're at the topic:

Are there genue Acrocanthosaurus teeth out there for sale? Since Acrocanthosaurus can be found in the US I wonder why I never came across any Acrocanthosaurus teeth for sale. Are they just super rare?

I did not see any doing a quick search.  My assumption is very, very rare.

Yep...extraordinarily rare.  I've only seen 3 complete teeth for sale in all the years I've been collecting.  A few more partials.  Why its on everyone's wish list.

Edit:

My guess if any are found they will be sold privately well before they have a chance to mske the open market

Acrocanthosaurus is one of my favorite dinos. For those of you who have not seen it, I would highly recommend a trip to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science to check out their Acro skeleton,. It is awesome!!!

Great post Frank!

In the 90's, there was a skeleton for sale from the Antlers Formation in Oklahoma.  I don't remember if there were any isolated teeth or bones for sale around that time or since, but as Troodon noted, that kind of thing sells with a quick phone call.
