I'd gotten an Edmontosaurus caudal vertebra from @Troodon and had decided to prepare it a bit. I had used water to soften the matrix and a metal pick. Here are the before and after pictures.

Before

And after

Also, does anyone have any tips on how to prepare hell creek fm fossils because I just wet the matrix and basically scooped it out.

I thought you would enjoy prepping it.  Be careful and consolidate the neural spine area now that you have removed the matrix from the center.   Water on goes so far.   One slow process is using rubbing small sections using a rag or cotton swab that is dampened with acetone.     Dental picks or Xacto knives can be used to scrape away excessive material.

I use PVA Vinac Beads but never purchased it online.   You need to search the web or someone here can tell you where to get it

I havent found PVA online.  I order my Butvar and Paraloid (both essentially interchangeable with PVA) online from TALAS.   1 pound will make a LOT of consolidate solution.

Oh, thats right, I have seen that one.

1- its sold out (and I think its been out for a long time)

2- why pay $112 a pound for PVA when I can get Butvar for $30

Side note here, TALAS does sell AYAF resin beads (with a few other AY** variants) which are a PVA, but I cant find anything that says AYAF is the same as the PVA (McGeen B-15) we use for fossil consolidates.
