It looks like a ferruginous concretion or a tracefossil (burrow infill).

I think the iron rich concretion has better odds.

Put a metal detector on it, a lot of stuff I dug up in the ground, IRON, looks like this and all kinds of shapes and sizes. The past several hundred years can reveal this.
