Interesting find in Southwest NJ

So I have decided to do some exploration digs in my area (Salem County) just because there isn’t much mentioned for spots and it’s not more than 1 hour in any direction for me to search.

Found an area with a little help from some other individuals and the ROCKD app that put me on the Vincentown formation and had a slight success.  Mostly found coral but did come up with this.  Possible spike or claw?  It is roughly 1 and 1/2” long.

Just trying to see what it could be as not much is found in my area as of late.

perhaps a lobster claw of some sort? Are we sure it's from the Vincentown? I'd like to see your coral which I suspect is bryozoan.

I’ll get you some coral photos soon.  Using the ROCKD app I followed the creek until

i hit a red area which came out as Vincentown Formation.  Location is here.  Either claw or perhaps ratfish fin spine?

Probably best not to post exact locations on a site that gets thousands of views every day.  ;)

True but if anyone wants to try this spot expect to be quite disappointed.  Not that there might be something amazing there but this area is a filth ridden and not too friendly mess.  IF I ever try this area again I either must not be able to get to spots because of time or because I’m that bored.

This one spine/thing and maybe a dozen coral from a few hours of digging in muck and garbage and climbing through sticker bushes isn’t making this one of my areas I’d ever go to again.  I’d beg someone to please go and find more to convince me back. ;-)

Posting sites online is a tricky exercise. We do not encourage posting exact locations.
Even though they may be hard to get to, or may not have produced anything for you, when you advertise locations online, and have tons of people hitting a place on the regular, you can almost guarantee that it won't ever really produce, or can be closed to collecting entirely.
