fifbrindacier
Hello everybody, i need help identfying those corals. They Come from an Aquitanian-Burdigalian site in the South-West of France. The scale is in centimeters. Thank you very much for your help. Sophie. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." oyo
First three specimens with scale: Family Acroporidae. Astreopora or Acropora as most likely genera. Second specimen with scale: Family Heliastraeidae. Probably Thegioastraea although it is difficult to perceive with this type of specimen. Other members of the family such as Tarbellastraea or Heliastraea should not be ruled out. I highly recommend that you get jobs from J.P. Chevalier on the Mediterranean Miocene as: J. P. Chevalier 1954 Contribution to the revision des polypiers du genre Heliastraea. I recommend Chevalier's works because they are specific to the area, but keep in mind that they are already a few years old. Research possible later revisions. fifbrindacier
Thank you Oyo, according to a document from Bruno Cahuzac i also found out that Tarbellastrea was one of my candidate, but i had great doubts for an Heliastrea. I'll have a look on Chevalier's articles. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." fifbrindacier
Here is its cut section and the other face. I think it's a Thegioastrea miocena. oyo
Ok, costae are confluent. Attached image of longitudinal section of Thegioastraea from Chevalier 1961. To compare. I also enclose a description of the species that you propose. Same origin. As you will see, Chevalier speaks of a table of species. I enclose this table so that you can make measurements and guarantee the species. Edited December 17, 2021 by oyo
