Bolen2
Hey guys, this is my first post to this forum and I’m excited to be here. I am an amateur but I have come a long way when it comes to fossil hunting and I have a pretty large collection of quality fossils. I found this piece in the Appalachian coal fields of Eastern Kentucky, mixed in with other fossils from the Pennsylvanian. To me it appears to be some sort of invertebrate fossil but it is preserved in a type of sandstone and as far as I could guess I would imagine that an earthworm-like specimen would be too delicate to be preserved to this detail. It is definitely weathered by the rain and snow we have had lately but you can still see an amount of detail. A friend of mine who is also an amateur suggested it could be a type of millipede but we simply do not know for sure what it is. Thanks for the help! Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. This looks like an invertebrate trace fossil to me. 2 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Bolen2
Thanks! I hadn’t considered that! I have found many trace trace fossils but this has to be the most intricate of that’s truly what this is. I appreciate your help!
