Drivertyler
Found this along the Missouri River at Omaha. Thinking it’s some kind of hoof. Any help would be appreciated.
Rockwood
Yes. That's a hoof core. How dense/hard does it seem to be ?

This one is very light and seems rather fragile. We found another today that’s is much darker, denser, and slightly smaller.

And the density difference can be tricky to determine. Tapping it lightly with a spoon and listening for the tone is one way. A high pitch indicates mineralized bone. Modern bone will have a lower tone. I actually use my teeth, but it takes some experience to judge the distinction.
