Frank Eaton
I thought I had seen the whole gamut of shapes and materials from the Lee Creek mine spoils, but this tiny (2cm) specimen has me stumped. It looks like a tiny brain with “folds” radiating away from a central seam. The “bottom” has a deeper seam, like the meeting of two halves of a walnut. I have found blocks of milky amber in North Carolina before, but nothing with any symmetry. if it’s a coprolite, what’s the seam? Could it be a little skull cast? I have been staring at this thing for a year. Please help. Frank
Sandfossil
My first impression was it looks like some type of clam. However I am no expert. It is very cool.
Fossildude19
Pictures of the sides(top/bottom?) would be helpful. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Al Dente
It looks like part of a hyperostosed fish skull. Here are a couple similar ones from the elasmo.com website. 7
Frank Eaton
Yep, that would certainly look to be it @Al Dente! I need to spend more time on that site. I’ve picked up a bunch of fish material recently. Thank you!
