Tooth of some kind?

This is cortical bone.

Edit: With a touch of cancellous bone for good measure.

Myrtle Beach, 2022

I posted this under a different title and some believed it was bone. Now that I look at it longer I’m wondering if it’s a fragment of a mosasaur tooth. Any experts out there?

I apologize for the double post but afraid the old post would get lost.

The item is curved. The front has much more of an enamel sheen the typical bone I pick up. The striations at the top are reminding me of a mosasaur fragment I found on this beach a couple years ago.

Thanks!

Sorry, it's still a piece of well worn, water tumbled broken bone.

I agree. That doesn't look anything like a mosasaur tooth. It would be good to know where it's from to know what kind of bone it could possibly be.

It's from Mrytle Beach. A beach find. There are fossils from the Cretaceous to Pleistocene found there. It's a bone frag and most likely cannot be ID'd beyond that.

Topics merged. We only need one topic per fossil - best to keep them together. ;)

Thanks everyone! Being arched on one side and concave on the other side, it threw me. But after 20 years I still have much to learn! Leaving Myrtle Beach today. Thanks for putting up with my annual fossil hunting trip :-)

See you next year!
