TyrannosaurusRex

Hello all! I’ve just gotten home from Tucson, it was a great show. Having taken a 5+ year hiatus on fossil collecting, this was a wonderful return to the community, and getting to talk to some of the kindest and most knowledgeable people in the world. While there was much less as far as fossils go compared to the last time I went, I found some really good things to add to my ever growing collection. :P

Partial Unknown (Platecarpus relative?) Mosasaur Skull in Plaster

Most of the upper section of the skull, eye socket is partially visible. Very very strange teeth. The guy had thought it was Platecarpus, but he said the teeth were likely too short.

As always, I’d love identifications on anything I don’t have IDs on. Hope you all have a great rest of your weekend, stay safe!

  • TyrannosaurusRex changed the title to Tucson 2022 Finds

I think your Nanotyrannus tooth might be rex. It doesn't have the pinch in the middle that other Nanotyrannus teeth have.

Certainly! There’s always great things to be found.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Dromaeosaurid tooth you have is actually a tooth from an abelisaur, they are often called raptor teeth by commercial dealers. So the tooth probably came from something like a rugops

Nice finds!

At the size it was, I figured there was no way it could be dromaeosaurid, and I was hoping someone would give me a better ID! Thank you for the info!!

Oh man wouldn’t that be nice! I can’t afford buying a Rex tooth really so that would be lovely! I know that identification often comes down to the direction and size of the serrations, would it help to get some photos of them?

I'm pretty sure that identification is the base shape. @Troodon might know more.

Wow, you snagged some great fossils!

Compare your "South American gar vert" with the vertebrae of Champsosaurs.

Glad you made it back to the fossil community.

That’s great information. I hadn’t heard of the Tegana formation prior, I wrote down what the vendor had given me. Glad to have that cleared up. Thank you so much for the positive identification on the Rex tooth. Would it be a younger rex, considering the size?

Great minds think alike!

I’m beyond grateful to be back in the community. I’m thrilled with the identification help y’all have provided in this thread, it’s beyond helpful!
