In one of the Christmas auctions I received a bountiful supply of fossils from @minnbuckeye from the Tamiami Formation (Late Pliocene) of Florida.  There were well over 100 nicely identified bivalves and gastropods (with a few other odds and ends in there for fun).  Mike was nice enough to include a couple of items that were not identified, just so I would have something to do. :heartylaugh:

This one I would like to get confirmation of my ID and if anyone knows the species, that would be great.  I don't have many detailed references for that formation, and the lists I have seen never get that specific.  I know @MikeR is very familiar with this material, but there are some others out there that probably know as well.  Thanks for any help you can offer.

In the two pictures, it is item A that I am talking about.  I believe it to be a Longchaeus sp?   The two shells labeled B are other Pyramidellidae that I have for comparison.  You can see they are very similar except the item in question has the strong plications on the columella which the Pyramidella do not. I found an paper (Landau, Bernard & Lafollette, Patrick. (2015). The Pyramidellidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda) from the Miocene Cantaure Formation of Venezuela. Cainozoic Research. 15. 13-54. ) that shows a specimen I think looks very similar (which led me to the genus) but it is from Venezuela and I'm not sure  whether the species there and in Florida are linked at all.

Both are Longchaeus suturalis

Thanks again for your help.

I think all three are Longchaeus suturalis (H. C. Lea, 1843).

@MikeR Thank you for the ID.  I was most of the way there, just not certain.  And thanks for the correction on the two small ones (B).  I should have read my own notes on those before posting.  They are from the Chipola Fm. and when I ID'd them as Pyramidella I put in my notes that I was uncertain as I couldn't find anything in either Garner (USGS 142) or Volkes (Tulane Studies) papers that I primarily used for that material, but I thought they looked like Pyramidella from the Eocene of my Stone City Bluff material.  Plus I did not see the plications on the columella, but after your observation, I went in and did some "micro-surgery" to clean out the apertures so I could see better, and lo and behold, what are hiding there; some nice little plications!  You obviously have way better eyes than I do.

Thanks again for checking.
