Stuff from Lost River, WV

So I went to Lost River, WV (Needmore formation) during the fall. I just recently found time to go through the material some more, set up photos, edit, etc.

 

Brachiopod impression? As with the other brachiopods, I’m hoping for genus-level identification.

 

 

Brachiopod. Any ID’s on its genus?

 

This… Thing. I’m guessing its a brachiopod. But I could also see it being the eye of a trilobite.

 

This brachiopod flaked right off the matrix! Any ideas as to what genus it belongs to?

 

Hmmmm this was clearer before I uploaded it. Any idea how to fix it? Not like its too important because it looks like its just some brachiopod hash.

 

I’m guessing this is the glabella of a Phacops rana.

 

 

Trilobite pygidium. Hoping for a species-level identification, but genus is probably the best I’m going to get.

I think we have mentioned before that uploading your images (like your second post) makes them visible to all members, and it prevents your content from becoming useless when the links break in the future.

Second to last item looks more like a pelecypod/bivalve shell imprint.

Last item is either an internal mold, or a concretion.

Most of the brachiopods look like some sort of Orthida, possibly something like Rhipodomella sp.

Your hash plate doesn't show enough detail on any one brachiopod to be able to tell what they are.

Not an eye but the imprint of a glabella of an Eldredgeops sp.

Could be an Odontocephalus sp, but I am much less confident in that, I’ve found a fair number of these out there so I’d curious too.

The species is now categorized as Eldredgeops rana but yes you’re probably right, at least on genus.

I see a fair amount of trilobite material in here too but previous comment is right, maybe a closer shot/shots with a harsher angle to your lighting?

 

I go out to a few spots in this area all the time, I love it. If you went to the most heavily trafficked site outside of Wardensville then you had some really good luck, every time I’ve been there it’s been very picked over. It’s always cool to see folks from my neck of the woods on the forum!
