Hi everyone!

I acquired some dinosaur claw partials and am trying to learn to tell them apart. There are a few different morphologies so not all of them are Anzu (I think). Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

The length measurement given is from the tip to the top of the base in a straight line

Upper left, first pic set: 24 mm

Upper right, second pic set: 21.5 mm

Lower left, third pic set: 29 mm

lower middle, fourth pic set: 25 mm (probably Anzu)

Lower right, fifth pic set: 26 mm (also probably Anzu)

Hi,

Nice batch.

I have no clue to the species ID, but numbering them in the pics would make answering very much easier for those who do.

best Regards,

J

I am always confused ( that’s a fact anyway) by the term raptor regarding theropod . I always think of birds of pray, what  is the correct use I probably 20 years out of date , I know my uses by date has passed ?  :default_rofl:

Nice collection of claws btw.

Pretty difficult to diagnose these claws with the diagnostic features missing on the proximal end.   Here are some guesses

#1 might be Ornithomimid, hand is possible

#2 & 5 might be a foot claw of Anzu

#3 ? might be digit II dromaeosaurid

#4 might be a hand claw of an Anzu

When identifying dinosaurs, Dromaeosaurid's are the raptors and in the Hell Creek there is Acheroraptor, Dakotaraptor and Dromaeosaurid Morp A.     Some dinosaurs have "raptor" in their names like Oviraptor but are not raptors, just a cool name

Huh, neat.

Isn't digit ll the "killing claw"?

Because I would be very okay with that.

yes but again, these are guesses

Understood.

For future reference, do you have any pics of Dromaeosaur claws I can compare future specimens to? I tried googling but a lot of what came up look like misidentified Anzu claws for sale.
