Please help identify petrified wood or bone

Found this yesterday in Texas (Gulf coast plains area).  Looked like petrified wood at first but now I'm not sure. Either end is very pourous and looks a lot like the inside of a bone.

My first thought is bone.  I see no pattern that looks wood like.  I am not completely  comfortable as bone because the shape is so very irregular but things do get broken up.  It might have been a very large chunk of cancellous bone like a whale vertebrae at one point
