ID Help Peace River FL

PODIGGER

Recommended Posts

I found the below bone on the Peace River, FL some weeks ago.  I have spent a good bit of time trying to come up with an ID that fits.  I believe it is a carpal bone and based on the size -

56mm x 63mm x 28mm at its widest points - I think I have narrowed it down to Sloth.  I have an affinity for sloth fossils so I am not yet sure it isn't just wishful thinking. I would welcome any input on the identity of the creature that left this bone in the river for me to find!  Thanks!

Jim,

Unusual finds are always exciting.  I have only seen the protuberance on the left for the 1st time a month ago.  Your find might be twice the size of my find.  Hard to tell if they are the same.

You might read this thread.

Thanks Jack! That is actually the thread that has me zeroing in on the carpal ID. The size is what has me guessing as to what exactly it’s from.

Thanks Coco. My wife’s photo light box and the measurement sheet downloaded from the Forum are a tremendous help.

I was referring in particular to the fact that you added an inches ruler over the paper in mm :Smiling:

@Coco

The ruler in mm and cm doesn’t quite line up with the grid paper. 11 cm on the plastic ruler equals 12 cm on the paper. I am assuming the the plastic ruler is correct. What went wrong with the grid paper? Was the grid printed on the wrong sized paper such as 8 1/2 x 12 inches vs A4?

Once I had finished drawing my paper, I saved it directly in PDF format so that everyone could open it, I did not print it. When I printed my PDF, I checked that the measurements were good with a ruler and they were.

I guess the difference comes from American versus French/European printers with various drivers and connectors. You may have to print at 90% (or a percentage to find) to have a good ratio, but only an American could specify that.
