Hi,

I think I just got my best candidate for a Dakotaraptor tooth. I'd love to get your thoughts.

It's:

  • From the hell creek formation, South Dakota
  • It's about 3/4" at its longest
  • CH: 0.63"
  • CW: 0.34"
  • Mesial serration density: about 5-1/4 per MM
  • Distal serration density: about 4-1/2 per MM
  • Serration shape: looks "raptor" to me--or at least unusually long, thin, and rounded for a tyrannosaurid
  • Base cross-section: Almond, no pinch whatsoever
  • Mesial carina: straight as an arrow, serrations ending about 2/3 of the way down

Yea :Jumping: I think you finally found your DR tooth.  The CHR fits very well into its range and you described the other characteristics that fit one.  Congrats.

BTW can you take future measurements in mm since thats what we are comparing with in publications

Thanks, Frank!! I'm still determined to find another 1+ so I can send you one as a "thank you" for all the time and teachings. It's the only way I can think of to give something that might make you grin.

You've been a necessary component in this hobby becoming so enjoyable to me.

  • Thank You 1
