what kind of wood fossil is this ?

Hi everyone this is Matt again.

In the creek today, I found a fossil that looked like wood.

Can anyone tell me what kind of wood it could be ?

Hey Matt, that is pretty cool.

It probably can't be identified past being  some sort of fossil plant matter.

Could be from Archaeopteris sp., but without foliage it is difficult to say for sure.

Carbonized may be the best answer available. There is a slim chance that a closer look may help. The age would tend to favor something like has been suggested. I agree that plant material is the bottom line though.
