Sponge this time

This was found in the west branch of the Trinity River in Arlington, TX. I'm thinking this one has to be a sponge. (and hoping someone agrees this time. :))

Hmmm.

What does it look like in cross-section?

The place where it's broken?

Life's Good!

Top photo. It appears under a lens to be a homogenous fine foamy texture.

are you thinking stromatoporoid or some other "sponge"?

I 'd take some other fossil even. I doubt it's a stromatoporoid. It looks like a fossil version of the foam rubber balls we would lose in Gramme's rosebushes when I was a kid.

The clear difference in texture from the remnant of rock on it is what makes me think it's a fossil. The color is a good match for many of the fossils there as well.

I had fun guessing where you might have been.... is there Woodbine formation upstream on the banks?   See pg 70; does that help? https://sites.smu.edu/shulermuseum/publication_pdfs/field_lab/Dodge1952.pdf
