Is this just a regular rock?

I found this specimen while doing some yard work in Gilmer, Texas Upshur County. Thank you for your help.

Looks like chert or agate, to me.  :)

Banded jasper is also a possibility.

I don't see anything that immediately says "fossil" to me, but since you're in Texas you're bound to find many. Texas, like Illinois is a very fossil-rich state with a great diversity of species, so keep on looking. Scroll down the main page to the fossil site listings and look at the Texas entry, or just type Texas into the search bar to see where to look.

That is ironic because that is what I said to myself yesterday that it could be banded Jasper!  I did some further research this morning and I do believe that’s what it is! Thank you for your input on this subject!
