strochim
To trilobite experts: I found some partial exoskeletons of trilobites at Black Cat mountain in Oklahoma, that after cleaning and prepping, appear to have an appendage attached that kind of looks like a head. But looking at complete trilobites, I don't see this "head" anywhere. I found 3 of them like this. Photos of two of them are attached. Is this "head" even a part of the trilobite, and if it is, what exactly is it? Thanks for any help.

oilshale
Brachiopod seems likely. It could be a colonization of a hard ground (the trilobite remains). I have too little understanding of trilobites, but could this be a hypostome? Edited April 12, 2022 by oilshale 1 Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC). Randyw
LOL! And here i was thinking it was a molt… some trilobites molted by the tail coming loose a few segments seperating and the cheeks and eyes and front seperated from the center of the “ head”…..
