Hello everyone,
I am a new member and i do not understand much about fossil. Although i am very pationate about them.
I found this fossil myself and i would like to remove the matrix attached to the fossil.

I tried vinegar and a tooth brush. It kinda worked on the top of the fossil where you can see the tiniest spirals. That method cosumed about 2 days of work and only uncovered that tiny piece of the fossil.
I am also concerned that the acid frrom the vinegarr will partially destrroy the fossil.

What is the best way to do this?

Best Regards,
Bruno

This looks like a steinkern (internal cast) to me, so any chemical treatment could cause damage, since everything has basically the same constituency. I would suggest using a pin vise or similar tools to carefully scratch off the matrix bits which are attached to it.

You might even want to just leave it as is?

RB

I very new to fossil hunting and prep.

I have never prepered a fossil.

I think it would be a really pretty fossil if the matrix is removed.

You think if i try to prep it will look worse?

If you think so i will take that in consideration since you have more experience than me :)

I think I would probably just leave the rock how it is.
