Fossil ID Guide Waurika Pond, Oklahoma Permian?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently visited a Permian site near Waurika Pond and collected microfossils for my students to explore back in the classroom.  Is there a guide to identifying these fossils out there somewhere or is piecemeal searching here the way to go.  If not, I will be making the one page guide over the summer have it to offer. Any help on something simple for my elementary aged students would be much appreciated.

I don’t know what the DNG format in photo is, but it is not taken into account by this forum. Your first two images don't appear. What kinds of fossils are found in this sediment ?

The second images are the converted .DNG files.

I uploaded them this morning after converting them to .JPG format.  ;)

Waurika has Permian aged, reptiles, amphibians, and sharks.

There is a book called Lower Permian Vertebrates of Oklahoma by Kieran Davis that extensively covers the Waurika fossils. But I have heard that it is not very trustworthy. You might want to contact the folks at the Whiteside Museum of Natural History - they'd probably have some good advice.
