Hello. My family found this on the beach in southern Oregon. We’re wondering what this fossil might be? It has texture to it that you can feel. And it’s pretty, my daughter described it as being lacy, almost like crochet stitches.

I am excited by it  but dont have any real idea of what it is.  My own prejudices make me think  of a fish vertebra but i wouldnt put any money on it

Yes, I am fairly certain that this is a  very pretty example of a fossil fish vertebra. :b_love1:

howdy,

I concur. fish vertebra. maybe shark. if you can tell us which Southern Oregon Beach it was found on someone might be able to narrow down which big fish it could have come from.

nice find. I'm fairly certain there is more of this vert still in the rock. perhaps a local preparator might be found on this very forum. best of luck.

Bony fish vertebra. Sorry, sorta difficult to ID beyond that. Being in matrix like that makes it a nice display specimen!

Thanks everyone! We have worked on exposing more of the fossil and are making some progress. This has been an enjoyable quest!

I can see why you would want to expose more of the vertebra, but in my humble opinion, it is a niftier piece with some of it hidden,  Less is more and all that
