Annnnd... they're off and running!  (kind of)

(Don't tell me we're going to get stuck at the Oligocene too)

Here's an Oligocene Rhynchobatus from North Carolina.

Ok then. Here's a Neptunea contraria from the Pliocene van Lilo Formation in Antwerp, Belgium.

I'd be wary of wetting these Chengjiang fossils, they are soft and I wouldn't be surprised if some detail is washed away each time. That's too nice an example to lose!

It was isopropyl and I let it evaporate, but I'll keep that in mind next time. Thanks.

I think isopropanol should be pretty safe.  It evaporates quickly and isn't as problematic as acetone.

OK. I think some soft clayey specimens can puff up when damp (with water) but I don't know how they would be affected by different liquids.

Looks like we're back at it again. Here's part of a hash plate from the Devonian Givetian at Hungry Hollow Ontario with a few Tentaculites sp. along with a spine from a Platyceras gastropod and lots of crinoid and bryozoan bits.
