jnicholes
Hey everyone, I had to make a trip up to Spokane, Washington, to help my grandparents move. They’re moving in with us. While I was helping pack boxes, I found this rock in their garage. Obviously has fossils in it. My grandfather was kind enough to give it to me. Any idea what this is? Is it even a fossil? I am attaching pictures.
Harry Pristis
Those are casts of crinoid stems. The stems are gone - dissolved - but they've left their casts in the limestone matrix. 2 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
jnicholes
Thank you. I suspected that it was a crinoid. One of them does not look like a cast, though. I’m referring to the second photo from the top. Thanks for helping me out. Jared

As an analogy, your crinoid would be like a series of stacked donuts, a series of hollow rings. What you're seeing is the stacked donut holes.

jnicholes
Kind of bad, kind of good news. The rock itself broke. However, it exposed more crinoid casts. One of which I was able to extract. it’s going in a labeled frame eventually. Jared
