Found a couple neat things in some bags of rocks from Home Depot

Hello! I got a few bags of rocks from Home Depot the other week to use for a project, and when I was washing them off I found a couple neat things. Unfortunately the bags were thrown away and the garbage was picked up yesterday so I can't check the bags for the quarry locations, but the bags were purchased in Wisconsin so I would reckon the rocks are from either Wisconsin, Minnesota or Illinois.

Here are both next to a tape measure. I'm pretty sure the left one is some kind of brachiopod but I have no idea what the striped one is or if it's even a fossil:

And a few different angles of the striped one:

Sorry for the obnoxious shadow in front, I was using my flash because it was too dark in the house and since I was so close to the fossil my camera left a shadow. <_<

Welcome to the Forum. :)

The first looks like an imprint from a brachiopod, maybe a spiriferid.

The second looks like an immature rugose coral.

Neat finds, well spotted.   :Smiling:

To me, they look like the imprint left by an ammonite whorl and a solitary scleractinian coral.

Though I do understand that Wisconsin is primarily Palaeozoic, so I'm miles off here.

No ammonites in the states mentioned, that I know of.  :headscratch:

I agree.

I did edit my post just before you posted your reply, but just saying it doesn't look quite right for a spiriferid to me and that the coral looks more like a scleractinian than a rugose solitary form. Just my opinion, but I get that I'm probably wrong here. :)
