Manticoceras ?

Paleorunner

Recommended Posts

I bought it from the same seller, the solitary horn coral that had no information. Sold as Goniatites, from Morocco,

If I'm not mistaken it's some kind of Manticoceras,
but which ? Can anyone recognize it?

It is 22 centimeters longIMG_20220529_123545589.thumb.jpg.3b34c3a0be2c5fb4566db72e50bd2930.jpgIMG_20220529_123604076.thumb.jpg.bba5e862dd1aeff004dfd054b801f1bd.jpgIMG_20220529_123618132.thumb.jpg.69012b07493dee7cfea04bc833fc1ea3.jpgIMG_20220529_123724024.thumb.jpg.5b6c8d921596639bfd1e2282aa322da7.jpg

Nice sizeable specimen. :)

Devonian goniatite from Southern Morocco but I'm not sure about anything more specific, I'm afraid.

Bonito ejemplar de tamaño considerable. :)

Goniatita del Devónico del sur de Marruecos pero no estoy seguro de nada más específico, me temo. :encogimiento de hombros:

Thank you very much Adam. :fistbump:
With your answer we already have something good to start with. :Smiling:
Let's see if there is luck, and someone puts his name on it.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

the suture lines concur with gephuroceratids like Manticoceras. But I won't go further than Manticoceras sp. It is impossible to id a polished specimen up to species level.

Also 22cm is very big for a Manticoceras.but not impossible.

growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.
