Burke_Family
We found this in southern Oregon. Our first idea was that it was just an interesting, normal beach rock. Looking more closely at it, it appears to be bony. We’re wondering if it might be a vertebra, and if so from what type of animal? It’s approximately 3” x 4” x 1.5” (images show cm ). Also, we’d gladly take recommendations on reference resources we can use to help us narrow down IDs on our own. (But we definitely appreciate the input!) fossilus
Vertebrae are axial on a skeleton and have right/left symmetry that I don't see on this piece. Looks like a rock to me. 1
Burke_Family
We will take another look, thanks. The light colored sections have a cellular structure like you’d see with bone or wood, and we can see some of that coming through in the darker areas as well. daves64
I'm seeing what appears to be sandstone or quartzite. 1 1 Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.

It is possible that some of the rock may consist of grains which were cemented (in the lithification process) by a more soluble material such as carbonate. There could even be tiny mold fossils there. 1
