Inge
Hi, I found this on West Runton beach in North Norfolk, UK. I’m wondering if it is a fossil and if so what type? I have included a standard sized store card for scale Thanks!
rocket
interesting one, but, for me its not possible to decide if its fossil or not. Does it have fine structure? Looks a little bit like a piece of petrified wood, but...
Inge
Thanks for your reply! I have seen some pictures of mammoth tooth fossils that I can see some common features with so I thought it might be a fragment/plate. The Surface looks a similar texture and shape to the one pictured here https://www.denofantiquity.co.uk/product/rare-large-british-woolly-mammoth-tooth-from-norfolk-england/ Here is a picture of what might be the grinding surface
sjaak
Its a piece of a mammoth molar. In Dutch we call it "lamel". I forgot the English word for it.
