Teeth/jawbone fossil found a long time ago

Hello All,

I am hoping someone might be able to tell me what this is, or what it was a part of. A LONG time ago we were traveling the country, we stopped in Nebraska and Kansas and use to backpack everywhere. We found this in the sand one day after a hard rain the night before. We took it home, as we didn't really know what it was. We are thinking it is a fossil of some sort.

So the item was found in the north west section of Nebraska. Was found in 1993 and sat in a safe since. I pray someone may be able to shed light on it.

Yes, I agree.  Not sure there is enough there to assign it to a specific species, although the true experts on this forum may have more insight.

Yep. Upper left jaw, partial cheek, and lower partial eye socket.
i suspect it’s a Merycoidodon gracilis ( oreodont) going by size, teeth shape, cheek shape, and the shape and location of the divit in front of the eye socket. ( I always forget what its called) but I’m only 65% positive on the species i.d….

heres one from my collection for comparison…

So far as I know all Early Orellan,Early Oligocene oreodonts are assigned to either Merycoidodon or Miniochoerus, The color or the teeth and bone looks like the specimen is from Sioux County Nebraska.
