Biotalker
At the “Dig with the Experts” earlier this month at Penn Dixie, I found this interesting surface fossil on a block that the on location experts seemed to agree was a placoderm fossil. Approximately 5 inches (12.5cm), it is thin, pigmented and has intermittent perforations or pustules. In an adjacent pile, another more extensive and remarkable set of fossil strips like this presumptive placoderm were found by another rock buster. Anecdotally, it was remarked by staff that these two putative placoderm blocks were excavated from the “same region” of the pit as the apparent Dunkleosteus jaw discovery. Perhaps just a coincidence, but nonetheless an interesting mystery.

Not sure the place itself is getting better, (It has always produced great finds!) or that people just are recognizing the fossils better. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Kane
A friend of mine was there last week. They are actually digging a bit lower than the classic trilobite layer now, but they may need to dig a relief trench for drainage as it is now well below the water line. The deeper cut is likely resulting in some more placo finds now. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Biotalker
Here is a view of the much bigger piece of placo skin that was found in the neighboring block. It is much bigger and I would guess it is on the order of at least 12 inches. 1

Biotalker
Not trying to give impression that I found these big tracts of placo skin. These were found by a bright and energetic young fellow (I believe in high school last year) who was breaking rock in a pile next to mine (and gave me permission to photograph).
jdp
Looks like you've got associated pieces of a reasonably-sized Holonema. This is pretty fantastic. Edit: not a correct ID. Holonema has striated ornament. Maybe Protitanichthys? Edited July 17, 2023 by jdp
