Meganeura
So 2 more things I wanted to ask for IDs on. First is what I originally thought was Dugong bone - but now that it’s dried I can see concentric rings in it - which makes me think tusk? But no Schreger lines. The other is a piece of bone with an odd shape. 1) Possible tusk? 2) Bone @Shellseeker @Harry Pristis Either of you guys know? Thanks in advance! Edited June 28, 2022 by Meganeura Fossils? I dig it. Shellseeker
Sorry, Daniel I do not recognize them. I used to collect everything, and have tried to stop keeping anything that I do not think others will be able to ID. Just a question of time... more time spent on barely identifiable fragments means less time for everything else.. 1 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"

I'll probably reach that point one day - but for now while I'm still learning i'd much rather ask for IDs than pass up an ear bone or something cause i wasn't sure what it was! I appreciate you looking though. Fossils? I dig it.
Brandy Cole
Your last picture indicates bone fragment to me, but I couldn't get more specific than that. @MeganeuraI have learned a lot the same way, by picking up everything and trying to ID it as well as possible. At least twice I almost passed up two really neat pieces that I thought were junk at first. It never hurts to take closer looks as long as you have the time.

I figured it was bone, I just wish I knew what from. It’s a cool enough piece of bone that I’m going to keep it though, unlike the multitude of random chunks that I really have no clue about. And I agree completely - I nearly missed out on a few pieces of mammoth enamel thinking they were chert or mineral, having never seen fragments of a mammoth tooth before. Now I’ve found a whole bunch all because I decided to get them ID’d here! 1 Fossils? I dig it.
