ID of 30x35mm Coral Fossil

Location:  Hancock County, Illinois USA    Limestone Quarry 150ft below surface

 

what type, age and what are the 1mm round nodules with possible stems on the facing side in first picture.

 

any other info greatly appreciated.

Rugose horn coral.  About 250 million years ago they went extinct in the end Permian extinction event. The nodules are beekite a diagenetic silicate mineral.

Very cool, thank you much appreciated.  Have had this fossil since college rappelling days at the quarry.  Only wish I had picked up more of these because there were hundreds at that time.
