Oviraptor egg question

Recommended Posts

hi folks, Im thinking of buying a cluster of Oviraptor from a seller who says he got these at a gem/fossil show over 10 years ago. He says he preps fossils and has extensive experience but has not finished prepping these particular eggs and won't get around to abrading them out of the matrix. I told him they are fake but he insists they are not, so I wanted to put it to the test here. thanks for your help.

They look real however the eggshell is almost gone on all of them making the real fake question mute.   They are just the internal cast of Elongatoolithus type eggs.  The little remaining eggshell on the sides is the only value on this clutch

They are not fake, but some glued and filled parts. Not sure what they were glued with, but it looks like a very sloppy job. Anyway, there is no eggshell left on them, so they should be really cheap.

Absolutely correct, not worth any energy to prep or have in a collection

Not worth a dime IMO,  you are buying casts and remnants of eggshell, plus a very sloppy inital prep

Not worth a lot of money, but its still a fossil and everyone has a different point of view... Some like, some don't...

sorry lol no price discussion ...noob mistake

Also, please keep your inquiries focused on the fossil...nothing about the seller is relevant to a discussion on The Forum.  Thanks.

sure, sorry about that, I just wanted to point out the seller says he works with fossils and therefore maybe more reputable

I understand, but that is still prohibited.  The merits and information about a fossil can be discussed without any reference to the seller.  Again...

Agree with others, just saw this topic. Eggs look real and also the matrix bellow them typically what you would expect. Sadly almost all of the shell is gone on this piece, the shell is what makes them so desirable the better intact to more rare it is. So I would pass on it, you can find better ones out there

good luck !
