What’s this Brain shaped stone

I found this brain shaped object on the south cost of England. It’s very heavy. It is not magnetic.

Pyrite with possible alteration to limonite on the outside. It is common in chalk and limestone.

Or marcassite. Same chemical formula as pyrite: FeS2.

@ONeil welcome to the forum!

 

As you can see the collective knowledge contained in our member's brains extends beyond fossils themselves to related fields like minerals (which we often encounter while fossicking for fossils). I would have described this lovely marcasite specimen as looking more like a head of cauliflower than a brain but maybe that is because I'm a vegetarian. ;) That's one for the display case for sure!
