Macro Lens Attachment for Cell Phone

Today, I stopped at one of those stores that sells Amazon returns. On Fridays they replenish the store and everything is $8.00, but today, they had everything for $6.00. I found a cool little case that I opened up and it had an attachment for a cell phone camera. I bought it to give it a shot and it works out very well.

This first picture is a standard shot at 1x, without the attachment.

This next picture is zoomed all of the way in, without the attachment.

This picture is with the macro attachment on the camera at 1x. This gives me the same results of the camera when zoomed all the way in without the attachment on. The top picture and the below picture are almost exact.

This last picture is zoomed all of the way in with the macro attachment on.

I really like the results of this and it should work very well when taking close-up shots.

Wow! Can I ask what kind of phone you are using? I've never seen one with such good magnification, I've always used a lens on mine

Ralph. I would like to compare a photo using the new macro lens on your phone to a photo using my 10x hand lens and an old iPhone. Can you take a picture of the microprinting on the lower left corner, under “United States” on a US $20 bill? Note microprinting is about 0.5 mm high.

Here is what I can do:

I is a standard I Phone 8. I believe that this lens attachment runs about $16 new.

Here you go- these pictures are taken with the attachment on at 1x and then zoomed all of the way in. By the way, my phone is an old iPhone 8 and it also would probably have the same results on my old iPhone 7 Plus.

Thanks Ralph. Your setup looks slightly better. A few bucks for a lens on your phone that you do not have to hand hold, like mine, looks worth it.

I agree, it clips on real fast and is a lot easier to use. I try to shoot pics through a loupe and / or the eye pieces on a couple of my stereoscopes, and sometimes it is impossible.

Nice pickup and you had a $20 to spare.   Looks like it does a great job.

Lol and I borrowed the $20 from the wife.

With any luck she'll forget!  I was thinking about buying one of those. Can you take a photo from a bit further out of an object that isn't flat, like a crumpled $20 bill? I'd like to see the depth of field range as well as the field of view size at the farthest distance with the object still in focus.

Mark I will try tomorrow-

It does come with a Fish Eye lens and you cans stack the 15x Macro and 0.63x Wide Angle and shot Wide Angle. The Wide Angle piece only works while attached to the Macro.

It would be nice to be able to recommend 2 or 3 macro lens choices that fit a wide variety of phones to those posters with poor photographs. People spend big bucks on phones, but claim they take poor close up photos.

I am tempted to buy the number two, Zenvo “Best Buy”, lens on the top list. It is mentioned high in the second list. Has anyone tried it? Tried any other decent lenses?

I am thinking about getting a 25x macro lens and see how that one works.

If macro lenses for phones are like hand lenses for geologists then there may be little use for a lens over 20 power because of smaller field of view and less depth of field.

For my album photos (non-macro), depth of field is the problem I'm having with the smaller specimens, and the problem gets worse the closer in I get. In macro mode the depth of field is maybe 3 to 4mm. Many of the specimens that aren't near flat make it difficult to take photos with all of the specimen in focus.

I was thinking of getting one for fossils such as, fecal pellets of a leech. It would not be good for most fossils, but I could see a use for it from time to time.

Mark, here are a couple pics I took for you of some amethyst crystals, depth of field is an issue.

I have xenvo it works pretty good. I'll do the $20 bill picture a little later once I can. I've gotten it pretty small but I don't think I ever actually tried to max it out on something flat. Just on teeth.  Some of those below
