QuasarKid
Hi All; I found this in a stream bed in Northern California. It looks like a heart and had some unusual indentions & stippling that caught my eye. Any help to let me know if this is a fossil would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! digit
Nope. Looks like a really beautiful piece of metamorphic rock (fossils are generally found in sedimentary rock--sandstone, shale, limestone, etc.). It reminds me very much of the gneiss (a type of metamorphic rock) that we saw when we visited Scotland--the Lewisian Gneiss of Scotland is very old (~ 2 billion year old). @ynot is usually very good at identifying minerals and types of rocks. ynot
Defiantly gneiss. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." digit
Thanks, Tony! Definitely very nice gneiss (the 'g' is silent). Cheers. -Ken
