Hi all

Emmm,  this is my first Tyrannosaurus tooth, yes, I had no experience at the time, but I still remember how excited I was when I got this tyrannosaurus tooth, even now. Yes, he was a broken tooth, and it was expensive. And now I want to know the tooth ID.I think it's nanotyrannus. All I know is it's from hell Creek, Montana, no county. ThanksScreenshot_20220708-000829_Gallery.thumb.jpg.b5e4db96e37a7903f1e23b5c17c2ae6d.jpgScreenshot_20220708-000842_Gallery.thumb.jpg.d27f2323f539d2d0e7f91a38faa871e6.jpgScreenshot_20220708-000853_Gallery.thumb.jpg.69e943148348e0a701aa4544cecfcf5f.jpgScreenshot_20220708-000902_Gallery.thumb.jpg.d4911ac177541a9c9ad6863ba4287f02.jpgScreenshot_20220708-000916_Gallery.thumb.jpg.1c496141b92e0096faec4fe3c490d273.jpgScreenshot_20220708-000922_Gallery.thumb.jpg.eb211af10523aa2eb0e18e2e43bb39fd.jpgScreenshot_20220708-000930_Gallery.thumb.jpg.16870e54caabb9c3d3817d521c120fb7.jpgScreenshot_20220708-000820_Gallery.thumb.jpg.2be2901ab95c0b21a0726563acd03a26.jpgmmexport1657211654668.thumb.jpg.c4614ba6061ee680531db1c33c59a962.jpg

Do you have a locality where it was found?  Need that to confirm the ID.  Looks like a Nanotyrannus but ...

That's location enough I believe, Formation is what matters!

Fossils? I dig it. :meg:

Right, and I'm saying I don't think county matters. Could be wrong though, @Troodon is the expert.

Fossils? I dig it. :meg:

Unfortunately not the case especially when it comes to Montana,   without a complete provenance how can you confirm its Hell Creek and not Two Medicine or Judith River or something else which are adjacent Formations.  I've seen too many get changed when the location is provided.  Never assume, and sellers are quick to ID to HC or default to HC if unknown.

The message I want to get to anyone buying dinosaur fossils is locality, locality is one of the most important items you need if you hope to get an ID.

  • I found this Informative 1

Ah! Well that’s news to me, but really good to know if I ever decide to buy HC material. Thank you!
