Is there anything here worth more pictures?

Not really. All you seem to be finding so far are suggestively shaped rocks. I think you need to do some research about exactly where to look for fossils in your area.

This has been all from Big Brook Preserve.   I must be looking with too much enthusiasm.  :look:

There are a number of websites about Big Brook and the other surrounding, fossiliferous brooks.

Study the photos on them to become familiar with what to look for.  ;)

It does take a while to train your eyes, but the time spent will be worth it in the end.

Depends on what you are collecting.

There really isn't one for Big Brook.

For Big Brook, I think this website is the best.

Maybe by period would be helpful as I learned where I was hunting.   But it seems that the books all just have the same ol same in them.

I agree that these are suggestively shaped rocks, but I commend you on your use of a ruler! :thumbsu:

I’d take Fossildude19’s advice. I think with a little study and getting your eye trained to look for what is found in Big Brook you will be finding the good stuff in no time. Good luck!

I find these two websites to be the best:

https://njfossils.com/

http://www.njfossils.net/cover.html

Good luck! There are a lot of very suggestive rocks in the New Jersey brooks, but once you start to get an eye for what you are looking for, you will not stop seeing things.

As I said, it really depends.

For New York Devonian fossils, I use David Linsley's Devonian Paleontology of NY, and Karl Wilson's  Field Guide to the Devonian Fossils of New York.

There are many general fossil guides, but when you start to hunt different areas, you are going to want to look at scientific papers online, to learn more about each geologic formation you are dealing with. Often times, these will have species lists of the areas discussed.
